Our
SUSTAINABILITY JOURNEY
Starting with Sustainable Design
Building a Greener Future at Townhouse Doneraile
At Townhouse Doneraile, sustainability is a vision we are working hard to bring to life. As a business we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and creating a more sustainable, eco-conscious experience for our guests and community. While we have made some important steps towards sustainability, we are only just beginning, and our goal is to significantly expand and enhance these efforts by December 2025.
Our sustainability journey began the moment we decided to relocate to Doneraile in 2013. Instead of building something new, we chose to restore and repurpose the historic building that now houses Townhouse Interiors. The Commercial Hall, built in the 1880s, is a wonderful example of how breathing new life into existing structures can honour the past while reducing environmental impact.
Sustainability is also at the heart of our interiors work. We prioritise natural, durable, and responsibly sourced materials, whether in our fabrics, soft furnishings or curtains. By collaborating with suppliers who share our commitment to ethical production and quality craftsmanship, we aim to create interiors that are both beautiful and enduring.
We are continuously refining our approach, reducing textile waste, reusing offcuts where possible, and sourcing materials locally to minimise transport emissions. This is just the beginning of our journey toward a more circular, sustainable design practice, and we look forward to building on these efforts in the years ahead.
Waste Reduction and Energy Efficiency: Laying the Foundation
While we have already implemented some eco-friendly practices, we are committed to doing more. By December 2025, we aim to:
Minimise waste
by reducing packaging and eliminating single-use plastics throughout our production and installation processes.
Improve energy efficiency
by upgrading our lighting to energy-efficient LEDs and introducing smart technology to better monitor and reduce energy use in our showroom and workshop.
Promote responsible energy use
by creating clear guidelines for our team to switch off equipment and lighting when not in use.
Water Conservation and Eco-Friendly Interiors
Water efficiency and sustainable sourcing are also priorities for us. We are gradually introducing water-saving fixtures in our workspaces and exploring ways to further reduce water use in fabric preparation and cleaning processes.
In our interiors work, we are increasingly focused on eco-friendly materials, from natural, responsibly sourced fabrics and recyclable linings to sustainable poles and fittings. We also collaborate closely with suppliers who share our commitment to reducing environmental impact across the supply chain.
Building Local Partnerships and Supporting Biodiversity
As part of our commitment to building a more sustainable community, we continue to look for ways to support local biodiversity and local craftsmanship. In collaboration with Doneraile Tidy Towns, we have helped plant 30 native oak trees on the Charleville approach to Doneraile and plan to expand this initiative in the coming years.
We are also developing a native plant and material guide to inspire clients to incorporate natural textures, tones, and locally inspired design elements into their homes. Our vision is to help make Doneraile a model for eco-conscious living and design, where sustainability and style go hand in hand.
A VISION FOR THE FUTURE
While our sustainability journey is still evolving, our goals for December 2025 include:
• Reducing our carbon footprint through energy efficiency, local sourcing, and responsible production methods.
• Implementing a sustainable waste management system that includes fabric recycling and reduced single-use materials.
• Expanding our use of sustainable materials, from textiles and trims to fittings and finishes.
• Strengthening partnerships with local suppliers, artisans, and craftspeople who share our values of quality and sustainability.
We know that sustainability is an ongoing process of learning and improvement. Our vision for Townhouse Interiors is to lead by example—creating beautiful, timeless interiors that are as kind to the planet as they are to the people who enjoy them.
Join Us on This Journey
We are excited about what lies ahead and believe that by working together, we can make a meaningful difference. Sustainability is not just about how we design, it is about how we live, source, and create.
We invite our clients, suppliers, and community to join us on this journey toward a more sustainable future for Townhouse Interiors, Doneraile, and beyond.
Thank you for your continued support, and we look forward to sharing our progress with you along the way.
Warm regards,
Myra Ryall
